Training takes place on a scenic stretch of the River Avon between Bradford on Avon and Avoncliff.  The canoeing section of Bradford on Avon Boat Club (BOABC) regularly competes at events throughout the UK and abroad all year round under Bradford on Avon Canoe Club (BOACC).

As well as training and racing, the club is also very sociable, with regular events from BBQs to annual awards nights.

We are primarily a kayak racing club and have active junior’s, men’s and women’s squads. The club caters for all ages from juniors to veterans and for all levels of experience.  We offer beginners taster sessions through our Introduction to Marathon Racing courses which also provides the opportunity to meet our club members (link at bottom of this page). If you enjoy the course then we’d encourage you to join the club and our community of like minded paddlers.

Facilities and equipment

The canoeists have a good set of club equipment for usage by members. The club boasts a selection of single and double racking kayaks (K1s and K2s) that have been carefully chosen to provide a range of boats suitable for crews of all sizes and ability.  Members are also able to use the club paddles and buoyancy aids when they first join, and are encouraged to purchase their own when ready.

The club prides itself on the standard of club equipment which is well maintained.  All members are expected to do their best to ensure that equipment is kept clean and in good working condition.

The club has a number of on-land paddle machines (ergos) and selection of weights for land training.

Racking for private kayaks is available but limited and comes on a first come first served basis - we do our best to accommodate all requests.

Groups and Training

We run one club training session all year round on a Saturday morning at 9am with three training groups Barton (Beginner), Packhorse (Intermediate) and McKeever (Performance) so all abilities are catered for. We also run a Wednesday 6pm session from April to October with a beginner group and mixed ability double kayak (Mixed K2) group. During these warmer months, we also hold monthly 5km time trials on the first Wednesday of the month which is open for all abilities.

Individual groups can be found out on most evenings between 5:00pm and 6:30pm during the summer months but please speak to or email the Commodore or Vice-Commodore for more information on this.

The facilities can be used at any time outside of the formal training time by competent adult canoeists.
